Mark Gould picture

Mark Gould

Mark Gould is a member of the brass faculty at The Juilliard School in New York. He recently stepped down as the principal trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra following a tenure that lasted more than 30 years. As guest conductor and trumpet soloist, Mr. Gould has appeared with the Seattle Symphony, the San Diego Symphony, the Buffalo Philharmonic, and the Hartford Symphony Orchestras, as well as at festivals including the Vermont Mozart Festival, the Waterloo Music Festival, the Madeira Bach Festival and the Caramoor Festival. Mr. Gould travels regularly to Europe and the Pacific Rim countries to perform and present clinics and master classes. As a Yamaha Artist his activities include yearly visits to Japan for concerts, clinics and master classes. Mr. Gould is director of the New York Trumpet Ensemble and the Main Street Band, an ensemble dedicated to presenting American wind band masterpieces.



Ray Mase picture

Raymond Mase
(studied with September 2002 - May 2005)

Ray Mase has been performing with the American Brass Quintet since 1973. As a member of the ensemble, he has performed worldwide, premiered over one hundred new brass works, and contributed countless editions of 16th-, 17th-, and 19th- century brass music to the ABQ library and on their highly-acclaimed recordings. As a trumpet soloist he has appeared with the American Composers Orchestra, Boston Pops, Moscow Soloists, New York Virtuosi, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Summit Brass, at the Bethlehem Bach and Aspen Music Festivals, and in recitals with the popular trumpet and organ duo Toccatas & Flourishes. Mr. Mase is principal trumpet of the New York City Ballet Orchestra, Chairman of the Brass Department at The Juilliard School, has served on the Board of Directors of Chamber Music America, and has been an Aspen Music Festival artist/faculty member since 1973. He can be heard on well over one hundred recordings, and as soloist on the Albany, Deutsche Grammophone, Summit, Koch, Troy, Cambria, MHS, and Furious Artisans labels.



Michael Ewald picture

Dr. Michael E. Ewald
(studied with September 1999 - May 2002)

Michael Ewald is a professor of trumpet at the University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign and performs as principal trumpet in the Sinfonia da Camera and the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra for eight years and has also performed with the Chicago Chamber Brass, Chicago Brass Quintet, the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra, the Burbank Symphony, Pasadena Chamber Orchestra, and the Long Beach Municipal Band as well as many other touring groups throughout the United States, Great Britain, Austria, Hungary and Romania. His published musical editions are: Modena Duets: Vol I and II, Peer Southern Music Company, NY; Three Pieces for Two Trumpets, Morning Star Music, Saint Louis, MO; 29 Etudes for Bach and Telemann, The Art of the Phrase, Balquhidder Music, Los Angeles, CA.



Joseph Burzinski
(studied with September 1993 - May 1997)

Joseph Burzinski, a native of Toledo, Ohio, graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Frank Kaderabek and Vince Penzarella. Mr. Burzinski served as the principal trumpet of the National Orchestra of New York and has performed under some of the world's most celebrated conductors, including Eugene Ormandy, Zubin Mehta, Andre Previn, Robert Shaw, and Sergiu Celibidache. He currently works for Hal Leonard Corporation, the world's largest print music publisher and performs regularly with the Waukesha and Festival City Symphonies. He resides in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin with his wife and three boys.
